Carmita Vaughan currently serves as chief strategy officer for America’s Promise Alliance, overseeing all programmatic efforts, including the Grad Nation Campaign, to help communities increase high school graduation rates and ensure that all students graduate high school, college- and career-ready. Prior to joining the Alliance, Vaughan served as chief of staff of Chicago Public Schools Office of High Schools and High School Programs. In this role she managed all central high school operations and administrative services supporting 120 schools in areas including budget, human resources, data systems, and communications. Vaughan also worked to develop a comprehensive strategy to improve Chicago’s high school graduation rate.

Prior to joining CPS, Vaughan served in global marketing, strategic planning, and engineering/operations management roles in several Fortune 500 companies, including Procter and Gamble and Danaher Corporation. Vaughan holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from University of Michigan and a master’s degree in business administration from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. She has been recognized as a 2009 Leadership Greater Chicago Fellow and a 2010 Aspen/NewSchools Entrepreneurial Leaders for Public Education Fellow. Vaughan participated in The Broad Residency in Urban Education Cohort 2005, serving her two-year Residency in Chicago Public Schools.
